Update to Court Operations at Devonshire Courthouse
Following flooding and water damage, remediation work at the Devonshire courthouse (3380 Devonshire Ave., Halifax) continues. Effective August 7, 2026, in-person matters will recommence.

During ongoing remediation work, the Court Administration Office is continuing to accept filings; however, the documents counter is temporarily relocated to the main floor of the courthouse. Similarly, the front counter for the Family Law Information Program (FLIP) is temporarily relocated on the main floor. Other family law programming, including conciliation and alternative dispute resolution, will proceed by telephone. Further updates will be provided.

Update: Inventory Filing Requirements for Probate Court

On October 27, 2025, the Registrars collectively granted an extension for filing an Inventory [Form 29 under section 45 of the Probate Court Practice, Procedure and Forms Regulations made under section 106 of the Probate Act S.N.S. 2000, c. 31 (as amended)].

This was due to ongoing disruptions impacting Canada Post services which have since been resolved.

For all estate files in which an Inventory is currently outstanding, the Inventory must be filed on or before August 21, 2026.

A Notice to file an Inventory [Form 30 under section 46 of the Probate Court Practice, Procedure and Forms Regulations] will be issued after August 21, 2026, if the Inventory has not been filed.
