Justice Shauna MacDonald is the newest judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia.
Her appointment, effective immediately, was announced by the federal Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada earlier today.
“The Supreme Court of Nova Scotia is delighted to welcome Justice MacDonald,” said the Hon. Deborah K. Smith, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. “Her impressive legal career, with a strong focus on criminal law, makes her an excellent addition to our Bench. I know she will serve the people of the Yarmouth region well in her new role.”

Justice Shauna MacDonald graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in French in 1991 and a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1994.
As a lawyer, she spent most of her career with the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service (NSPPS). She also teaches part-time at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law. Most recently, she served as Senior Counsel with the Canada Revenue Agency, Legal Services Unit with Justice Canada. She was a member of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court Liaison Committee and represented NSPPS on various national groups.
She was designated Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel) in 2021.
Justice MacDonald will preside in Yarmouth.
There is currently one vacancy in the Supreme Court (Family Division).
