Impact to Court Operations at Devonshire Courthouse
Until further notice, due to ongoing remediation work at the courthouse at 3380 Devonshire Ave., court matters scheduled at that location will proceed by videoconference, telephone or in person at the Law Courts, 1815 Upper Water St., Halifax. The Scheduling Office is in the process of contacting counsel and parties with instructions for each matter.
 
The Court Administration Office is continuing to accept filings; however, the documents counter is temporarily relocated to the main floor of the courthouse. Similarly, the front counter for the Family Law Information Program (FLIP) is temporarily relocated to the scheduling window, just inside the main entrance. Other family law programming, including conciliation and alternative dispute resolution, will proceed by telephone.
 
Holiday Reminder
Courthouses across the province will be closed on Monday, August 3 (Civic Holiday), reopening on Tuesday, August 4.

Robing Ceremony for Judge Jennifer MacLellan

The Provincial Court of Nova Scotia will host a robing ceremony in Dartmouth on Friday, June 19, 2026, to officially welcome the Honourable Judge Jennifer MacLellan to the Bench.

Judge MacLellan was appointed to the Provincial Court on February 13, 2026.

The ceremony will be livestreamed from the Supreme Court Satellite Courthouse in Dartmouth starting at 3:00 p.m. on June 19. Attendance is by invitation. The public and media can watch online at https://www.courts.ns.ca/operations/webcasts. Archived video of the ceremony will be posted online following the event.

The Hon. Judge Jennifer MacLellan

Judge MacLellan was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1995. Prior to her appointment, she worked with the Appeals Branch and on the leadership team of the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service in Halifax.  She appeared regularly at the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.  She is an International Fellow of the National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute and co-author of Qualifying and Challenging Expert Evidence. Judge MacLellan received her King’s Counsel designation in 2016.
