LAW COURTS MOVE TO DIGITAL RECORDING
OF COURTROOM PROCEEDINGS

The courtrooms in the Law Courts building on Upper Water Street in Halifax will be switched to a new digital recording system in the very near future. The change-over is expected to be completed on or before August 15, 2006.

This new NOVO digital recording system will produce CD copies of courtroom proceedings (rather than audio tapes). The CD's will have free software embedded on them to assist in producing transcripts.

The process of requesting and receiving a CD will be the same as it was for audio cassettes. The CD's will also cost the same as audio cassettes - $18.11 plus HST.

Other courthouses in the Halifax Regional Municipality and many of the ones in other communities throughout Nova Scotia are also undergoing a similar upgrade of their courtroom recording systems. As each courthouse is switched to this new digital system, it too will only be providing CD's. Please check with the appropriate courthouse before ordering audio recordings of courtroom proceedings.
