NEW JUSTICE OF THE COURT OF APPEAL
SWORN-IN

The Honourable Michael MacDonald, Chief Justice of Nova Scotia and of the Province's Court of Appeal is pleased to announce that The Honourable Justice Duncan R. Beveridge has been sworn-in to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.

In March of 2008, Justice Beveridge was appointed to the Nova Scotia Supreme Court after 30 years of service with the Nova Scotia Bar.

He is a graduate of Acadia University and Dalhousie Law School . He was called to the Bar in April of 1979 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1997. Before being appointed to the Supreme Court in 2008, he was a partner in the Halifax law firm of Beveridge, MacPherson and Buckle where his main area of practice was criminal law.

Justice Beveridge has lectured for Bar Admission Courses, Continuing Legal Education programs, provincially and nationally, and was teaching part time at Dalhousie Law School . He was also very involved with the work of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society and in numerous law-related conferences as a presenter and panel member.

He was a past President of the Nova Scotia Criminal Lawyers' Association, former Chair of the Canadian Bar Association's Nova Scotia Criminal Justice Section and was a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers, and the Board of Governors of Acadia University.

Justice Beveridge replaces Justice Thomas A. Cromwell on the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal. Justice Cromwell was recently appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada.
