~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Supreme Court of Nova Scotia is the highest trial Court in the Province with broad authority to try a wide range of civil and serious criminal matters (indictable offences); exclusive authority to hold jury trials; to hear appeals (on summary convictions) from certain criminal trials and from tribunals; and to try murder cases (except for those invovling young accused). Supreme Court judges have province-wide jurisdiction, although they live and work in various communitites in Nova Scotia. They are a circuit court which means they travel to and from their home location to other court centres to hear cases. The Nova Scotia Department of Justice provides administrative and operational support to the Supreme Court..
