For legal matters of family in areas outside Halifax Regional Municipality and
Cape Breton see the Family Court Section.


The Supreme Court (Family Division) was established in Nova Scotia to deal with all family law court matters in Halifax Regional Municipality and in Cape Breton. This court and its services give people the opportunity to resolve family matters in a more cooperative and less adversial manner. It is hoped the additional locations will be added in the future.


While the Civil Procedure Rules apply, generally, to proceedings in the Family Division, Part 13 - Family Proceedings is of particular relevance.


The programs and services of the court are administered and delivered by the Nova Scotia Department of Justice.
