FAMILY LAW INFORMATION CENTRES (FLIC)

The Nova Scotia Family Law Information Centre On-line is an initiative of the Court Services Division of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice <<Go To FLIC Site>>

FLIC is where to go for information about family law.

  1. It offers information about the family court process and services as well as other family court topics such as divorce and separation, child custody and access, and child/spousal maintenance. (Note: FLIC does not deal with such matters as wills/probate, tenancies, personal directives, or consumer protection.)
  2. It provides referrals to community agencies and programs which can offer further help.
  3. And it develops and presents family law information sessions - workshops and seminars on various family law topics.

In addition to its extensive collection of brochures - including such titles as "Divorce Law: Questions and Answers" - FLIC also maintains a video library. You can watch videos such as "Your Day In Court" and "Parenting After Separation" or show your children videos such as "It's Different Now But That's OK" and "Parents Are Forever".

The workshops and seminars include topics such as I.S.O. (Interjurisdictional Support Orders); the Do-It-Yourself Divorce Kit; Drafting Affidavits; and the Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP). Members of government and non-government agencies conduct them on a volunteer basis. Details about when and where they are held are posted on the FLIC bulletin boards and are included in a monthly newsletter.

The centres also have computer work stations for you to use, free of charge, to find more information or to fill out court forms.

FLIC is a joint project of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice and the Supreme Court, Family Division. It is designed to provide free information about family law. It is not intented to replace the advice of lawyers or other legal experts.
