The Nova Scotia Family Law Information Centre On-line is found on the Nova Scotia Department of Justice website: FLIC Site>>

Une grande partie du site Web du CIDF est également disponibles en français
<< Le site du CIDF en français >>

There are also two in-person centres, one in Halifax at the Supreme Court Family Division courthouse on Devonshire and another one in Sydney at the courthouse on Charlotte.

FLIC is where to go for general information about family law.

  1. It offers information about the family court process and services as well as other family court topics such as divorce and separation, child custody and access, and child/spousal maintenance. (Note: FLIC does not deal with such matters as wills/probate, tenancies, personal directives, or consumer protection.)
  2. It provides referrals to community agencies and programs which can offer further help.
  3. And it develops and presents family law information sessions - workshops and seminars on various family law topics.

In addition to its extensive collection of brochures - including such titles as "Divorce Law: Questions and Answers" - FLIC (in Sydney only) also maintains a video library. You can watch videos such as "Your Day In Court" and "Parenting After Separation" or show your children videos such as "It's Different Now But That's OK" and "Parents Are Forever".

The workshops and seminars include topics such as Interjurisdictional Support Orders (Sydney only); the Do-It-Yourself Divorce Kit; and Drafting Affidavits (Sydney only). Details about when and where they are held are posted on the FLIC bulletin boards and are included in a monthly newsletter.

The centres also have computer work stations for you to use, free of charge, to fill out court forms.
