The Honourable Judge John D. Embree 1954-2012

The Honourable John D.  Embree, Judge of the Nova Scotia Provincial Court, passed away at his home on March 26th. Judge Embree presided in the Provincial Court in Antigonish for more than twenty years.

 “He was a very capable and highly regarded Judge. More than that, he was a fine man ”, Chief Judge Patrick Curran said. ”I am very saddened by his passing and want to express, on behalf of the Court, our sincerest sympathy to his wife and family at this difficult time. He will be missed.”embree

Judge Embree graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1977. The following year, he was called to the Bar in Newfoundland where he practiced as a crown prosecutor.

He returned to Nova Scotia in 1983 and served with the Public Prosecution Service in the Appellate Division.

Judge Embree was appointed to the Provincial Court in Antigonish in August of 1991 and had served there ever since.
