The Court

The Court of Appeal is the province's highest court. It is generally the court of last resort for Nova Scotians seeking to have their lower court decisions appealed, save in a very few cases when there is a further appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada.

The Court of Appeal sits only in Halifax and hears appeals in both civil and criminal matters from the Supreme Court and, in criminal matters, from the Provincial Court, Family Court, and the Youth Court.

The Nova Scotia Department of Justice provides administrative and operational support to the court.
